Pilot - The Anniversary

Reaching their first wedding anniversary, Annabelle and Will Smith celebrate by heading to marriage counselling with therapist Guy, after Will's terrible present has her convinced they need help. The pair are struggling with each other as Annabelle is somewhat needy and Will is particularly precise. They recall their story of the anniversary plans at a hotel in Bath where Annabelle feels she has to compete for Will's attention, while Will struggles when she encounters former boyfriend Darryl in the street, and completely ignores her husband. Will's lies about a free hotel room upgrade are also found out while things get worse when Annabelle's parents turn up at the hotel for lunch. After a terrible lunch for Will, Annabelle accepts a lift home alone with Darryl leaving her husband with a four hour rail replacement journey.

Series 1

1. The Dinner Party

Attending another counselling session, Guy is attempting to learn Italian in time for a wedding ceremony he is attending. Annabelle begins with the complaint that Will has called her obsessive while also finding out that Will lied to her about a work colleague, Katrina, and her feelings towards Annabelle at a dinner party who she is trying to impress. Will struggles with the idea of having a dinner party in his house and Annabelle's constant changing attempts to be popular, despite the fact that she hates her. Annabelle meanwhile has to contend with friend Heather arriving in tears after receiving the news that her husband Jerry is leaving her. As the five settle in for dinner, the divisions in the relationship of Katrina and her husband Douglas comes to the fore.

2. Sally's Birthday

Guy is running late to his appointment with Annabelle and Will, but eventually arrives where Annabelle is delighted to discover he does ballroom dancing. Suggesting they come up with a colour which best describes their week, Annabelle reveals a week of anger and shame after she and Will attended her mother Sally's 60th birthday party. Meanwhile, Annabelle's father John is in a particularly irritable mood as Will tries to make an effort to improve their relationship, while Annabelle is being badgered about the prospect of having children. As Annabelle and Will are caught up in the situation together, Will's forgetfulness leads to Annabelle not having a present to give while also discovering he has quite a lot in common with John and manages to give Sally the wrong present.

3. The Music Festival

Annabelle is running late for their counselling session but eventually arrives for the primary discussion of Guy and Annabelle meeting up a music festival which Will also attended and hated. Irritated at the news that Annabelle's friend Heather will be travelling with them, Will manages to put his phone in the postbox while posting a parcel. Heather meanwhile can't stop talking about her delight at being divorced from Jerry, despite him breaking up with her and having a new girlfriend. Will also takes to smuggling in food and lots of other items to ensure they are prepared for anything, while Annabelle encounters Guy as he is about to perform in a band. As the rain begins to poor, Will ends up stuck in the tent with Heather leaving a drunk Annabelle to sleep in Guy's tent and ruin his chances with two groupies.

4. The Bathroom

Will and Annabelle's current argument is about their over-enthusiastic builder, Adam, who Annabelle hires to renovate their bathroom and decides to come up with a number of additions which they don't want. Guy meanwhile has problems of his own with a former date who won't take rejection and continues to call and email. Will starts the session in trouble after coming up with poor five reasons to love Annabelle, while also recalling an encounter with a neighbour Saskia whose environmental opinions don't align with his own, and has to go begging to in order to use her bathroom. The situation with Adam has Will complaining from the off when he discovers he is the husband of her boss and also struggles to stand up to.
