Twilight Zone Radio Dramas (Volume 16)

The Hunt

An old man and his dog Rip head out hunting, though his wife worries about something happening to them. Dismissing her concerns, he heads out into the night. While out hunting, the pair hear a noise and Rip runs off chasing a raccoon, with the old man in pursuit. They end up in a river, with the old man being unable to reach Rip. Regaining conciousness the following morning, the old man is unaware of how he and the dog managed to get out of the river. However, upon returning home, he finds that nobody appears to be able to see or hear him.

Passage on the Lady Anne

Successful financier Alan Ransome and his wife Eileen take a trip on the passenger ship Lady Anne which is heading to London. Alan is annoyed at his wife choosing the slowest way to get to England, while Eileen hopes to use the trip as a way to rekindle their faltering marriage. However, onboard they are initially made to feel unwelcome before discovering that all the passengers are elderly couples who are taking their final trips aboard the honeymoon ship before it is retired.

Execution

Set in 1880, an outlaw named Joe Caswell is about to be hanged for murder. As the noose tightens around his neck, he is transported to 1960 and the lab of Professor Manion who reveals he has invented a time machine to pluck Caswell from the past. However, discovering that Caswell has murdered more than twenty people has Manion intent on sending him back, though Caswell is less than eager to go back, which results in an argument and the death of the professor. However, the strange surroundings Caswell finds himself make for a strange turn of events.

Steel

Set in 1974 after boxing between humans has been criminalised, people instead watch boxing robots in battle. Former boxer Steel Kelly manages a B2-model robot called "Battling Maxo", which is an older model, and on the verge of failing completely. After an arm spring fails, and with no money to replace it, Kelly decides to step into the robot and participate in the fight in the hope of earning enough money to repair the robot. However, in doing so, he almost finds himself being killed by his mighty robot opponent.

The Amazing Dr. Kyle Powers

Doctor Kyle Powers is an uncaring and unsympathetic doctor who receives a visit from a man with claimed supernatural powers. Urging Kyle to show more compassion, the man touches his arm and gives him a weird shock which results in him being able to read minds and diagnose by simply touching people. Kyle goes on to become the most popular doctor in the clinic before earning his own television show when his gift is discovered. However, the pain and suffering of all the patients he has treated comes back to haunt him when it is determined that he is not using his power altruistically.

Nothing in the Dark

Wanda Dunn is a terrified woman who has boarded up the windows to her house in the hope of shutting out the rest of the world. She repeatedly checks that the doors are locked, and refuses to allow people in such as the grocery delivery man. When a young police officer is shot outside her home, she eventually relents and allows the offer into the house to tend to him during which she reveals why she lives as she does - because she is afraid of death who she believes is trying to catch up with her.

There Goes the Neighborhood

Casual inventor Edgar continues work on his latest contraption, much to the dismay of his pushy, racist wife Helen who is busy complaining about the new neighbours originally from India. Edgar is close to completing a teleportation device, which Helen accidentally activates resulting in a large bug appearing in the basement. While Helen tries to kill it, Edgar discovers he can communicate with it telepathically, and finds that the bug, named Al, comes from a world which has its own political problems.

The Walk-Abouts

Author Tom is researching aliens and the supernatural. In attendance on a hypnosis session with Doctor Heisenberg, the patient Alex recounts an abduction though Tom has his doubts about Heisenberg's reputation. Pointed in the direction of Tammuz, a man who does "walk-abouts" of abduction sites to stir memories. The event has Tom reveal that he has previously had an alien encounter while walking where he came across a crashed UFO. However, Tom comes to the conclusion that Tammuz is as much of a fraud as Doctor Heisenberg who his publisher Maria appears to know which proves to be a surprise.

An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge

Set in 1862, Peyton Farquhar is being prepared to be hung from a rural railroad bridge by Union troops. As the noose is placed around Farquhar's neck, his life flashes before his eyes. Pushed from the bridge, the rope snaps resulting in Farquhar landing in the river before managing to escape after breaking free from his restraints and avoiding the gunshots of the troops on the bridge. Farquhar sets about making it home to his wife before reality sets in.

Now You Hear It, Now You Don't

Rose Lindbrooke is the owner of a cosmetics company and also losing her hearing. Having difficulty understanding people in conversations, she is hit by a bus while crossing the road leaving her with minor injuries in hospital. Her driver Burton is also badly injured in the incident leaving him in intensive care. The doctor suggests a hearing aid which Rose initially dismisses due to her vanity, but eventually succumbing to the suggestion, she puts one on and finds that she can hear the thoughts of others, though each of the people she hears have a similar characteristic.
