The Fear
Trooper Franklin is sent out to a remote cabin owned by fashion designer Miss Scott to investigate the report of strange lights in the sky. The officer faces resistance from her while trying to question her about the sightings, and discovers that she is an outsider getting away from the high life in New York where she suffered a nervous breakdown, while also finding she has a disdain for the nearby town. However, the pair have to declare a truce as the strange lights return.
The Parallel
In 1963, Robert Gaines is launched into a solo orbit around the Earth on a week-long mission. The trip initially goes well, though radio contact is lost and Gaines blacking out. Awaking having returned to Earth, he finds that the spacecraft landed without any damage despite not having the ability, and the world is not how he remembered it due to it containing minor distortions. The staff become more alarmed when he begins to talk about John F Kennedy being president - a man they have never heard of - while also finding that their spacecraft has subtle design differences.
A Hundred Yards Over the Rim
Travelling in a convoy in 1847, Christian is in the lead waggon which carries a sick child. Others in the convoy are wanting to turn around and head back, which would require a journey of 1,500 miles, leading Christian to convince them to stick by him as they try to reach California. Stopping for a break, Christian heads to the top of a nearby dune in search of potential help for the travellers. Reaching the top of the mound, he spots a road, which he heads towards. However, he soon finds himself in a new and strange world very different to the one he just left.
One for the Angels
Lew Bookman is a friendly sidewalk salesman who sells toys and trinkets, and is beloved by the neighbourhood children for his generosity. Business however is struggling due to store offering cheaper products. Returning home, he finds a man, Mr. Death, waiting for him in his apartment who informs him that he is scheduled to depart. Lew however manages to convince Mr. Death for more time to allow him to make "a pitch for the angels", though his efforts at avoiding death risk someone else taking his place.
The Midnight Sun
The weather on Earth has become hotter due to a blip in the orbit meaning that is has moved closer to the sun. With resources running out and society falling apart, artist Norma continues to try to live normally with the few supplies she has left. She also takes care of older neighbour Miss Bronson, who is struggling with the idea of ending it all, while the pair also have to deal with an intruder into their apartment building. However, as the situation deteriorates, a doctor tends to Norma's fever dream as the Earth begins to freeze as it is moving away from the sun.
The Rip Van Winkle Caper
Four criminals commandeer gold bars from a train which they derail, before escaping to a hidden cave in an effort to avoid being caught. Upon arriving at the cave, they divide the bars into four equal shares before climbing into coffin-like enclosures where they will be placed in suspended animation for one hundred years in an effort to beat the law. Awaking some time later, they discover that they are now three due to a falling rock having damaged one coffin-like pod, and set about venturing out into their future world where their greed continues.
A Most Unusual Camera
Chester and Paula are a husband-and-wife pair of burglars who steal a camera from an antiques shop amongst other items. Together at their hotel with Paula's no-good brother Woodward, they begin to play with the old box camera and discover that the camera can see into the future. Setting about using the camera to win bets on horse races, they end up arguing about what to do with the camera. When a picture develops that shows Paula screaming, the trio discover that there is no honour amongst thieves and that their futures may be time-limited.
Twenty Two
Dancer Liz Powell is suffering from fatigue after having recurring dreams. Spending some time in hospital in the hope of recovering to ensure she can continue to work, she discusses with the doctor about her situation. The suggestion that she try to break the dream cycle and that her issues are caused by overwork fails, and Liz sets about checking herself out of the hospital after seven days. Heading to the airport to catch Flight 22 to Miami, she has another recurring dream and luckily misses her flight which explodes shortly after take-off.
Walking Distance
Martin Sloan, a jaded and stressed advertising executive takes a visit to the town of Homewood where he grew up, and discovers that little has changed in the years since he left. Heading to his old house, he finds a child playing who is also named Martin Sloan and also discovers that his parents are still living in the home. Realising that he is seeing his life as it was, he tries to convince them that he is the now older and future Martin by way of details only he could know.
The Passersby
At the end of the American civil war, a large number of soldiers continue to walk past the battered house of Lavinia, who becomes more upset at seeing the injured and thinking about the death caused. She takes in a sergeant who requests a place to rest for the night, though is unable to convince him to stay as he believes he is being pushed to continue onward with his journey. When Abraham Lincoln also passes the house and reveals himself to be the last man on the road, Lavinia discovers that her life isn't what she thought it was.
