The Howling Man

David Ellington recalls backpacking through Europe in the 1920s, and ends up at a German castle while caught in a storm. Seeking shelter, he is invited in by Brother Jerome who offers a bed and recovery. While inside the building, David hears a howling noise and sets about investigating, which leads him to discover a man being held in a cell. Brother Jerome reveals that the man in the cell is actually the devil, who is being held to prevent much of the bad in the world from occurring.

Caesar and Me

Unsuccessful Irish-immigrant ventriloquist Jonathan West is struggling for money and vists a pawnbrokers to sell more of his remaining valuables. The shopkeeper however is more interested in his dummy, Little Caesar, though Jonathan refuses to sell. Returning to his boarding house, Jonathan is taunted by the niece of his landlady - Susan. Escaping into his room, he also has to deal with Caesar's low opinion of him as they prepare to head to another audition.

The Self-Improvement of Salvadore Ross

Salvadore "Sal" Ross encounters his ex-girlfriend Leah and attempts to rekindle their relationship by showing her he has changed. Leah however is convinced they are incompatible. He soon gets in an altercation with her father resulting in a visit to the emergency room when he injures his hand. While being condescending to everyone, Sal speaks to an elderly man and offers to swap conditions with him. The following morning, he wakes up to discover that he now has all the ailments of an old man and realises that he has the power to trade himself with others.

Time Element

Peter Jenson finds himself talking with psychoanalyst Dr Gillespie about previous events where he discovers himself in Hawaii just before Pearl Harbor is attacked. Encountering a recently married couple where the husband works on the Arizona, Peter attempts to warn him about the forthcoming event. Unable to get anyone to believe him, Janson reveals his dream always ends at the same point. The doctor however also makes a discovery about himself and the entire situation.

The Mind and the Matter

Archibald Beechcraft yearns to find solitude and away from the crowded world he inhabits. He is passed a book named The Mind and the Matter which is claimed can allow the reader to make things happen just by using their mind. Beechcraft uses his new ability to make the people on the subway disappear on the way to the office. Eventually becoming bored with having no one around, Jeff decides on repopulating the world with people just like him which leads to a world full of unpleasant and antisocial personas.

People are Alike All Over

Two astronauts, Marcusson and Conrad, crash land on an Earth-like planet. They eventually encounter human-like people who offer food and shelter, while also offering to bury Marcusson when he passes away from injuries sustained in the crash. The hospitable natives offer Conrad a house in the style of those on Earth, to go along with the advanced technologies they have. However, Conrad soon discovers what their intention for him is and realises that people are alike all over.

What You Need

Elderly peddler Mr. Pedott has the unique ability to offer cheap wares, shoes laces, and thimbles to the buyer before they are required. He is challenged by the irate Fred Renard who questions Pedott on his selling of junk, the argument continues when Pedott enters a bar where Renard is drinking. Renard turns up at the hotel where Pedott is staying and has worked out that Pedott has the ability to see into the future, and wants to make use of his abilities, though Pedott doesn't agree.

Dead Man's Shoes

A homeless man, Nate, comes across the recently deceased body of Dane who has been dumped after an altercation with a mob boss. Nate takes Dane's shoes and apartment key, and finds that when he is wearing the dead man's shoes, he takes on a different life. Without the shoes, Nate can't remember how he got to the apartment where he has an encounter with Nate's girlfriend Wilma. Putting the shoes back on, Nate is compelled to avenge the death of Dane.

What's in the Box

Joe and Phyllis Britt are an argumentative over-50s couple living in New York City. A repair man arrives to fix their television which has a habit of changing by itself, while Joe is impatient at the work taking too long. The repair man suggests the set is fixed and upon turning it on, Joe discovers that they can receive a new channel - one which peers into their lives and is able to show him events which have happened and which may occur in the future.

Deaths-Head Revisited

Former SS Captain Gunther Lutze takes a trip to a former concentration camp in Dachau in the hope of recapturing his time working at the camp. However, his time is interrupted by a man dressed as a prisoner - Alfred Becker. Becker sets about confronting Lutze about why he hides behind the moniker Professor Schmidt, and why he has returned from South America. Attempting to work out whether he is dreaming, other residents of the camp begin to appear having never left.
